New CD
Thora sings the role of Mimi in Opera Rara's new recording of Offenbach's Vert-Vert.
The Sunday Times – Review:
This is the first-ever recording of Offenbach’s comic opera Vert-Vert (1869), a distortion of a previously famous story about a convent’s pet parrot that learns to utter profanities. In Offenbach’s work, this parrot has fallen off its perch in its uncorrupted state, so the convent girls replace it with Valentin, a naive boy whom one of the girls, Mimi, fancies something rotten. The music, here exquisitely played, is as skilfully wrought and as tuneful as any Offenbach, and the first-rate cast, headed by Toby Spence and Thora Einarsdottir, pitches its performances at exactly the right level: gentle wit.
